What is mindfulness?
It is the practice of being aware of what is happening inside and around you in the present moment. We think we're aware, but much of the time we go through life on autopilot. How can we become proficient at anything if we're not really there?
How do these practices help you with your English?
In today's busy world, taking a few moments to practise mindfulness is a powerful way of supporting whatever you do. On the one hand, you learn to respond to stress and conflict more skillfully, while on the other, you cultivate peace and joy, which help you relax, focus and concentrate better, see things more clearly, and gradually, become more discerning in your day to day life. There is a much better chance of improving your English when you feel relaxed and happy than when you're in a hurry and tense. Mindfulness improves your ability to know what you're doing right, what needs to be done next, when to pause, and what might not be so helpful for your progress.
And because you're practising in English, you're processing language at deeper levels, and not just with the intellect. You're learning to judge less and communicate more authentically, more naturally, and in a more relaxed way.
