Behind the Work
Born and raised in Latin America to British parents, Tanya Meyer grew up within two languages from the start. With British citizenship and a British education, she experienced the richness and complexity that can arise when people communicate across linguistic and cultural boundaries. This fostered a lasting interest in language, communication, and understanding.
Before specialising in English language development, Tanya spent ten years in the maritime insurance sector, working in an international business environment where English served as a practical means of building relationships, exchanging information, resolving problems, and conducting business across countries and cultures. Since then, she has spent more than twenty years working with adults whose lives involve English in different ways.
Alongside this work, a long-term commitment to practices that encourage deeper observation and reflection has continued to shape her perspective and contributed to an approach that recognises language as encompassing far more than words. Meaning emerges through context and changes according to who is speaking, who is listening, and what is happening around them. Understanding often begins when we look more carefully at what is really taking place.
Today, Tanya’s approach brings together a perspective shaped by sustained enquiry into human experience and effective communication. This combination informs the way she works with organisations and their teams to engage more fully with English and the possibilities this creates.
